The Workplace Charging Scheme replaced the original WCS in February 2024. WCS 2 offers £500 per socket, up to 40 sockets per applicant, capped at a £315,000 minimal-assistance ceiling across three years. The scheme is open to VAT-registered businesses, charities and the public sector, and runs until 31 March 2027. Most of the fleet operators we speak to either think the grant closed last March or assume their existing depot can't take the load. Both reads are wrong. The first problem is supply. A 22 kW commercial charger on a depot with a 100 amp single-phase feed isn't an install — it's a supply upgrade dressed up as an install, and the bill arrives weeks after the order is signed. Both problems get solved at survey: load calculations on the existing supply, load-balancing strategy across the array so you don't blow the headroom when six vans plug in at shift change, phasing the install so vehicles still charge while we cut over. That conversation happens before the order, not after.
